Writing day

i've blocked off tomorrow so i can write as much as i can on this new story, which i don't think will be more than 75-80,000 words... i want to get through the outline i have mostly planned out... i don't plan out the end, because it could change as time goes on

i'm not sure when i'll get the chance to edit this story... i want to have it done by about the 5th of December, so i can give myself some time to study for my exams, then i'm starting the giant edit/re-write on the 14th so i can start polishing it so i can start writing up the agency queries

i think doing that will be a blast, talking about what i have to try and interest someone into reading it... but i'm getting ahead of myself *sigh*

so i'll be typing away tomorrow, possibly giving myself carpal tunnel... i hope not, that'd be painful

Back from the SiWC

so i'm back from the writer's conference... it was lots of fun, i saw a lot of interesting writers in the workshops i went to over the past 3 days and took a lot of notes... i also got 10 minutes with a literary agent and plugged my last year's NaNoWriMo novel... she said it sounded interesting, that it was marketable, and that i should possibly break it up into more than one book before contacting them and submitting something

now, i realize this isn't a guaranteed offer of 'edit what you have and ship it to us so we can send it out to a publisher' but it is 'edit what you have and look into sending us a query, because then we might ask to read part of it'... this is good news... and i was more than a little thrilled when she said that 'werewolf novels are still hot right now'

of course, being told to edit sucks a little because i'm trying to write something different right now... but i've told myself that what i'm writing now has to be finished at the end of November, or at least a few days before my final papers are due, and that the edit starts on December 13th after my last exam

in the meantime, i'm going to write as much as i can before i have to stop and write some papers for school, and hope i don't lose my mind

SiWC time

so, i haven't blogged much... darn... o well, it's happened before, and it might happen again

the SiWC happens on Friday... wooooooooo... i hope it's bunches of fun... with any luck, i'll get to meet with some literary agent, plug my books and books-in-progress... i think there's like, 3 or 4 of them

and NaNoWriMo starts soon... i have no idea what i'm going to write about this year, maybe just use it as an excuse to write 50,000 more words on what i'm working on right now, or start something new... i don't really want to start something new, i like what i'm working on right now, but i have an idea for a new book

Re-organizing my brain

so, after some thought, and no new writing, and finding some new music to listen to, i've decided to re-write the beginning of this new novel i'm working on... instead of waiting for when it's time to edit, or switching gears and editing the one i already have finished

well, it happens... i think i wrote myself into a weird spot, and have written little to no back story on my narrator/main character... i think i need to do that and flush out my brain and make sure that everything's going to make sense

so, now it's like i'm writing it over again, but i think i'll keep some of the bits i've already written

my classes have started again... darn... o well... maybe it won't be so bad this time around... at least i met some interesting people today in my tutorial... they seem pretty nice

i've been writing the new book... which needs a better title... i wanted to mention both the fact that she's a photographer and that he's a vampire... i've been listening to a lot of Evanescence as i write this... i think that when i get a better feel for what i'm writing, or when i finish, i'll put up a theme playlist for this new book

i've started writing a new book... i was going to wait and start it for this year's NaNoWriMo, but i was just so interested in the plot i thought up i didn't want to wait... so, i have about 2,000 words written, and i'm going to get as much done during the week-end before classes start on Tuesday

i think i've finally finished the first draft of "Full Moon Falling"... at 104,706 words and 406 pages

well, i think i'm going to change the margins and make sure all the chapters start on different pages... then put it away and thinking about what i'm going to write next

the first draft will be sitting in my files for about 2 or 3 weeks, then i'll be going back to it and editing what i have so it all flows nicely... maybe it won't take me as long as it did to write the darn thing

yay, i have over 400 pages!! WOOOO!!

well, i do now... when i edit i do hope to add bits i've forgotten, or didn't think about until later on, but i'm also going to change my margins so they're all an inch around, because that's the way school has taught me to do it... of course, maybe i'll just do it once i finish this first draft, but i have this thing about not leaving 1 line at the top or bottom of a page when it's part of a bigger paragraph

o well... well, i think i'll finish this first draft soon, i'm getting near the end of the story... and possibly the end of my sanity... i started writing this on November 1st, 2006, and it's already the 24th of August... that's 297 days

when i finish this first draft, i think i'll just sleep for a day or two

Trying to write... again

so, the week-end was a bust writing-wise, and i now have 10 days to finish the first draft by the deadline i set for myself... it's looking like i'll have a few nights of late writing ahead, since usually i can't write anything good until 11 at night which is very, very odd... sleeping in late and getting headaches from drinking coffee at noon sucks

now, i know i said i wanted to do mermaids for this year's NaNoWriMo novel, but i started thinking about writing something about an investigative photographer getting a stalker, but more like a vampire stalker... it came to me when i was reading something about some vampire tales when they have no reflection, and then thinking that they wouldn't end up on film, either... now i don't know what to write about... o well

school starts in 2 weeks... barf... this time i'm busy Tuesday and Thursday afternoons... parking's going to be fun if i can't find a spot at where i usually park... the city's increasing prices there in September, maybe the cheapos will leave and i'll get a spot at 12:15pm or at 11:15am

and i got a manicure today and have already ruined the polish on one nail... but i got a bottle of the colour the woman used, so i can always do it over... the downside, my nails will never look this pretty unless i get another one... o well... at least my nails aren't too long that they mess up my typing

6 months ago, i was sporadic at best with posting to this darn thing, and was bored out of my skull... now, i'm posting from every other day to every day, and writing like a crazy person... have my priorities changed??

well, to a point... i'm writing more, which is good, but i'm not working, which is bad... i know you're thinking, but aren't you a student?? shouldn't you be working to pay for tuition??... yes, but i have money put aside for school, so shush

i'm also at a bigger word count, maybe 40,000 more, maybe just 35,000... i've written 10,000 in the past two months, but that gap had papers and finals in it, and 3,000 of it has come in the past few days... it's totally wiped me out, but you never know what happens when you're on a roll

for all you writers out there, check out Mark Putnam's Plotastic blog, and Paula B's Writing Show podcasts featuring Mark Leslie... 5 bucks says these guys will have published novels in the next 12 months

oh, and i know what i'm going to write about for this year's NaNoWriMo... mermaids

the word count's gone from about 95,000 very late Monday night, to 98,000 very late Wednesday night... that's because i wrote about 1,000 words late Monday/early Tuesday... and another 1,000 late Tuesday/early Wednesday... and now another 1,000 Wednesday afternoon and evening

i haven't written this much is such a short period of time since NaNoWriMo

i think i'll reach my one goal of 100,000 words in the next couple of days if i don't burn myself out

What 'Full Moon Falling' is all about

recently, i've been talking to Paula B of The Writing Show podcast, and the link is in my blog list to the right... i've been talking to her about writing, sometimes my writing, and something dawned on me while listening to a recent show of hers

have i ever said what my novel is all about??... i don't think so, so i will right now

'Full Moon Falling' is a novel about the life of a young woman, from the time she is bitten and turned into a werewolf, to a point where she's finally accepted what's happened to her, as well as a serious relationship with another werewolf... from when she's 20 to about 27... i've written it in first person, and have tried to make it sound almost like a journal of her life... she goes through weapons training, gets shot, stabbed, and even tortured by the crazed humans that want to kill her and everyone else like her... of course, there's also her dealing with attraction to someone she's not supposed to be involved with, and i worked hard not to make this a romance novel... i want it to be fantasy/paranormal first

What I've learned about my writing

#1. people are interested in what i'm writing... proof of this is the current number of published books out there featuring werewolves and other supernatural/paranormal creatures... i'm starting to get the urge to write a vampire book... also, proof is other people saying that they enjoy the little bits i've given them to read

#2. i am going to finish this darn thing before September so i don't go insane, and i am going to book an agent appointment in October at the SiWC, once i get the money

#3. i can't write in front of the TV anymore because it distracts me too much, but i can write to music

#4. once i finish, i have to take the time to edit... make sure everything makes sense and follows a timeline and everything... and this could take a while

Has this ever happened to you readers out there?

now, not that long ago, i discovered "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer, and i found it to be a good book... i wish i had this book 4 years ago when i was heading into grade 12

the book was interesting, creative, and i'll give props to the author... now, i've heard some things about the second book that worry me a little, that you have to read it twice so during the second time you know that it isn't going to end terribly... this worries me a little, because i only read the books i love more than once, which is why almost every Emma Holly, Deidre Knight, Kresley Cole, Nora Roberts, and J.R. Ward book i have is worn with a broken spine... the books i have that look like crap are the ones i read the most

i'm on my second read-through of "Twilight" and the prospect of reading the second one, "New Moon," is freaking me out a little... i don't want to read a book where the narrator's/main character's boyfriend runs off for almost the entire book (if you're a vampire and your girlfriend isn't, you should expect her to bleed a little... don't freak out when it happens) and she spends most of her time with someone who doesn't want said boyfriend to come back... at all

now, i want to read "New Moon" and "Eclipse," the third installment that came out in hardcover yesterday, but i hate getting excited by books only to be let down when i wasn't pulled into the story... i classify a good book as one where i want to be in the story experiencing what's going on at every single turn... i don't like books that make me depressed for more than two thirds of it... reading is escapism for me, it's not about feeling depressed

well, curiosity always gets the best of me, so i'll get "New Moon" when i get a chance, and "Eclipse" when it's in paperback... i HATE it when books come out in hardcover first, then paperback a whole year later... i hate reading hardcover books, the dust jackets are pointless and i always lose them... and please people, don't tell me what happens, i'll figure it out

oh, and go check out the Starting Write Now blog... these guys, and Stacie, are very interesting

well, i know what i should be doing... studying for my Tuesday evening exam... barf... not today... or tomorrow... i know, i know, i'm slacking, but come on, who wants to study in the summer

meanwhile, in the more interesting part of my life... i've submitted something for the SiWC writing contest... i can only hope that they don't hate it... i was writing something, and realized that I couldn't get it finished in time unles i wrote for about a day or two straight... instead, i sent the first chapter of a novel i started last spring, before my grandmother passed away... afterwards, i couldn't really get back into it, i tried to, but it's been sitting around in my Word files unfinished for about a year... i'd be happy if i just got one of those honourable mention thingys

also, there's a new blog in my list to the right, Starting Write Now... it's done by a bunch of different people, blogging about their writing experiences, goals, and writing while dealing with real life... this blog is really interesting, and everyone should stop by it to read it

and hugs to my Jeannie... you deserve everything you want and more, i just wish i could send you those oiled hunks/assistants

so... i've done almost no writing since early July, which pisses me off just a little... i mean, i wanted to finish this darn thing, so i could maybe do an editor/agent interview at the SiWC in October... now, i'll be lucky if i finish before classes start again in September

exams happen in about a week and a half... hopefully they won't be terribly impossible... i don't think they will be, but you never know... this pretty much means i have until Friday to write as much as i can, then study my butt off... i think i can do it... this one distance class just made no sense half the time, but with some luck, the exam won't suck

now, i'm going to try and get some writing done, get some people through some realizations... and props to Wendy for continuing with her script

so, i got my tattoo done on Saturday... i was surprised at the pain, but after a little while it was bearable... like bee stings over and over and over again... once it heals over and peels off, a picture will appear

i've got barely any writing done, because i've got papers to write... i'm hoping to get some done on the week-end, when i have the time... after this other paper is due in a couple of days, the next thing that happens is exams in 3 weeks

first is Wendy's blog, which has been redecorated recently... Wendy's a blast, and her blog is always amusing... second is Lory's, someone i met through Wendy, and is someone i do online RP-ing with... next is Nancy's, which has a lot of pictures

next is the blog of a literary agent i've been visiting for a little while now, her name is Kristin Nelson, and i heard she's going to be at the SiWC in October, so i'm looking forward to going to the workshop she'll be instructing... next is Elizabeth's blog... i found her through Kristin's blog, and found her comments on writing and wanting to be pulished and life very interesting

ok, peoples, i've been doing a lot of writing recently, and i'm up to 92,672 words, which is about 360 pages double spaced... in November i never thought i'd get this far... well, when i reached 50,000 i hoped i'd end up at 100,000, but it's so within reach right now

i'm no quite sure what'd brought on this sudden writing splurge... is splurge the word i want to use here??... but i like it, i just want to write more and more and more... it's just going to suck when i have papers to write and exams to study for

on an even more fun note, i get my tattoo done on the 14th... i'm so excited... sure, it might be painful, but as long as i get it i'll be happy

today was strange... and for the most of it i was laid up with a strange combo of a normal headache and a sinus headache... and it's started to come back, so i'm in a fair amount of pain right now

because of the weird headache, i barely got any writing done... but i got some done yesterday, and early yesterday morning... and right now i'm so not in the mood to go to class tomorrow, but we're starting to read something new so i should go... i'm just not going to enjoy it a whole lot

now... i think i'm going to take something and hope it goes away... i wish i could write some more without it hurting

Proof I'm a night owl

ok, this is just insane... it's right after midnight here and i've found my writing groove again... take that, Wendy... ok, kidding, but still, this is just strange... it's midnight, i have to be up at around 7:30am to get ready for class, and i'm away from my laptop until 3:30 in the afternoon

this really sucks... why can't i get the writing groove back when i get back from class?? it would be so much more convenient if i felt like writing when i knew i didn't have to be anywhere the next day... o well... long weekend's coming up, which means i have class Wednesday morning, then no class until the next Wednesday... wooooooooooooo

of course, i'm out of town on the week-end, but i'll be taking my laptop with me since i've made a deadline to finish my book, which is obviously a first draft of a manuscript... i'm aiming to finish by the end of August... but if i average 3 pages a day, it'll take me 22 or so days for me to reach my tentative page goal of 404, which is about 101,000 words... and that's about the middle of July... once i go back and add enough to get me to at least 22 pages a chapter, which'll give me 404 pages, then i'll start at the beginning and edit and review to my heart's content

unfortunately, this mid-July date is surrounded by 2 papers i'll have due... thank God one was moved to the 18th instead of me having both due on the 16th... ewwwww

i guess that's it for me for now... i'm off to write another 3 and a half pages (which i told myself i'd write before i went to bed)

Writing update

hi-ho peoples, it's been a while... right?? i forget how often i actually write to this darn thing

so, i'm almost at 86,000 words for my novel, which is about 334 pages double spaced... sometimes it freaks me out when i see the little total page number scroll up when i open the file... the rest of the time i'm all giddy :D... i'm still surprised i've written that much since November... of course, i took December off, and most of February and March and half of April... but my goal is to finish by September... which'll be hard since i have essays due in about 3 or 4 weeks and exams after that hee hee hee... secret message time

the SiWC registration starts in July, and i'm debating whether or not to book an appointment with an editor or agent... i mean, i'm most of the way through this darn book, i have about 3 more chapters to write (i kind of planned out what each chapter would be about so i wouldn't go off track)... my mom said i should make the appointment and just bring the first couple of chapters, but i told her i want to edit the whole thing once before i do that... tell me what you think, people, or just Wendy, if you end up being the only person to read this

i was listening to an interesting podcast from The Writing Show with Paula B... head to http://writingshow.com/ to listen to it... it's the latest one, and very interesting... and it got me thinking that i want an interview like this done with someone talking to me, but maybe i'm just jealous that no one's interested enough to interview me

Something I've learned about myself

i realized something today when my friend Wendy was talking to me on how many words she's reached so far for Script Frenzy

i'm not a script writer, i'm a book writer

i thought i could write a script, but i can't cope with the format, and i need to write things out as they happen in my mind one after the other in full sentences and get people to talk using quotes... i see things happening in my mind and I have to write what i see, not take the time to write what the setting is in little headings

o well, at least i tried it, right? and i guess i could always go back and write it as a novel instead

To write a script, or not

i've been thinking about this whole script writing deal, and i have no idea if i'm actually going to finish the darn thing... i have a few ideas, maybe something sci-fi ish, like Lost in Space, but it's just a spaceship full of different people travelling through space trying to get to some colony or something... i guess i'm just not sure if i actually want to write the darn thing

Just an update

well, i wasn't really sure what the theme of this post would be, so it's probably going to be all over the place

school's going good, i'm a little behind on one class, which means lots of reading over the next week or so, but it's ok... Monday's a holiday, Victoria Day, but it just means i'll be at home reading for my distance class instead of at school reading for my not distance class

June's on its way, which means Script Frenzy starts soon... i'm not so sure about it... i mean, i'll try it and everything, but i don't think I'm going to get all that far... how can a 20,000 word script be equivalent to a 90 min to 2 hour movie... i'm at 83,000 words for me book and i'm just starting to get close to the end, got a few more chapters left

i think i've gotten hooked on e-books from Ellora's Cave... which is good, i'm getting some ideas, but it's also bad because i've spent a lot of money... at least i've got the ones i wanted to read

my passport finally came last Friday... 12 and a half weeks from the time i mailed it to the passport offices to the day it got here... NOTE to everyone: get your passport now, even if you're not planning a trip... get it now

Life update

well, peoples, it's that time again... well, it's always that time, but who really wants to be technical??

the first week of school is pretty much over, and it wasn't that bad... well, it's the beginning, it's never bad at the beginning... i've got a 2 page mini-essay due in a week and a half, then little write-up's for the books i have to read due the next week... then another few essays due in June and July, and exams in August... but i was expecting that

the weather's been nice, warm and sunny... the backyard looks amazing, all new and shiny... maybe not shiny... the new grass is growing like it's on growth hormones, the new plants are starting to get flowers, the little fountain and pond is bubbling away... once i get some pictures i'll put them up here

i've done a little more writing, but it's been slow goings... every once in a while i get a block and i can't think of how to continue, so i just watch a movie or read or whatever then get back to it... i'll update the little chart soon

did you all see my new label cloud thingy?... it's so pretty... i think i might change the colours around a little, and the font, but it's looking pretty good... if you think it's too cluttered, let me know

*snicker* is it wrong that i think the title is cute? no, of course not

well, it's only the 6th, but it's probably time to prepare outlines and plot notes for Script Frenzy (see link to the right and down)... now, i'm not really all that focused on writing a screenplay or stage play, i'm much more of a novel writing kind of girl, i just thought it would be interesting to try... i've got a lot of ideas rushing around in my head, and i don't think all of them would fit in a book format

what sucks is that my summer classes start tomorrow...eww, i know, but it's only 2 classes, so it's not like i'll be totally swamped or anything... i just have to block off time to write my essays and make sure i read everything i'm supposed to while marking important passages and taking relevant notes... if i do that, then everything will be fine and i won't fail or anything

i've found a bunch of writing tip related podcasts on iTunes, which i'll listen to on my way to school... if you Google these people, then you'll find the websites... there's I Should Be Writing with Mur Lafferty, The Writing Show with Paula B, and the Creative Writing Podcast from americanwriters.com... these are all handy if you're looking to write a novel for the first time or if you're editing a manuscript... i really like Mur's, she talks about continuing to write after being rejected

It's time for me to go

well, pretty much... i have to get up in about 7 hours, which is 4am, for a 6:30am flight... we fly out at 6:30, make a stop in Calgary, change planes in Edmonton, then land in Hamilton at about 4:30 in the afternoon... i'm going to be so tired on the plane

and i can only hope that the planes don't crap out on us like the last time we tried to fly somewhere... imagine June 2005... we were going to leave Abbottsford and land in Toronto... the plane did not take off at it's said time... 90 minutes later, we were told that a part on another plane would be coming in in an hour... and that didn't work... we ended up being shuttled to Vancouver on a large tour bus at 2 in the afternoon, and was given seats on a flight leaving at 4:30, which really left closer to 5

this meant we were late getting in, missed seeing my cousin and meeting her fiance, missed getting my hands and feet all henna-ed up, and got to the hotel at about midnight after being screwed over all day... at least the flight home was better... and the flights were free... hopefully tomorrow goes off without a hitch, and lots of coffee

that's it for now, peoples... if i get a change while i'm gone i'll update where i am and what i'm doing... if i can't get online, i'll post when i get back... one day i'd love to do a travel blog, me wandering around the place and posting where i am and what i'm doing... one day... have a happy April, peoples

Vacation countdown: 3 days until i'm gone

3 days?!? whoa... it's hard to believe that sometimes, cause there's part of me that doesn't want to go and spend the next 3 weeks recovering and doing nothing, when really i'd be spending those 3 weeks working and cleaning my room

well, at least the suitcases are out of our crawl space in the basement... and this time i get my very own suitcase... yay!... it's the little things in life that are the best

hopefully it'll be nice and sunny while we're away, but not too hot... or too cold... that'd suck

when i'm gone, i will update here when i get a chance, just to update what's been going on... if i don't get a chance, i'll just do a huge review post of what i did when i'm back on the 2nd

The time of relaxing has come at last

my exams are over, so i can stay up as late as i want tonight... which sounds like i'm 10 years old instead of 20... which is just so odd, cause i always thought i sounded like i'm 11 or 12 :D... kidding... i swear to everything i hold dear, which is my laptop, my green iPod, and my huge library of romance novels (don't joke, i love them), that i'm an adult... plus, it's legal for me to drink up here... boo-hoo to all you 20-year old Americans, head for Canada, we've got the good beer

i've set up a little chart thing for how much i've written for my books, the first being my book from NaNoWriMo, then second being the one that comes after it... i know, i'm not even done the first one and i've started another... but i swear, it's only a couple of vague prologue sentences

i guess that's it for now, i'll probably post something before i go away on vacation on the 18th... i'm taking my laptop with me, but who knows when i'll get wireless access... i still want to take it with me so i can do some writing, and finish this darn book... but of course, once i'm done comes editing and revising, and i hate that... i'm of the opinion that what first comes out of your fingers is the best thing you can say... except research papers and thesises and school-related papers, those need many drafts

Studying away

ewww... it's that time of year, when spring semester exams start... and students bury their faces in textbooks and notecards... i really hate this time of year... it's when migraines happen... i've got an english exam on Wednesday, and a physics exam on Friday night... after that, I'm going to sleep in on Saturday and relax until we go away

english exams suck, you have to remember themes and terms and be able to remember what the books were about... physics exams suck, you have to remember rates and equations and improbably theories and other scientific data

if only exams had one or two questions, or they were all multiple choice, then everything would be so much easier

Writing update

wow, my second update in 3 days... i must be doing new things a lot more often

since i was bored tonight... i started playing with my new 4GB flash drive... and i realized that i could put all my music on my iPod and everything else on the flash drive memory stick... but that's not important... i was bored tonight, and backed up a bunch of files, including my novel-in-progress files... after that, and being a little more bored, i opened up the file and started writing, and wrote a whole freaking page

the last time i actually wrote something was like a month ago, so i was feeling good... then i had a Twix and felt reeeeally good... now i'm watching Futurama and i feel great

so, i'm going to do some more watching, and some more writing... then maybe some sleep

Possible podcast update

well, i looked into it a little more last night, and found out i have to upload the files onto a site set up for it or something, which is a little bit of a hassle, but it's not that bad... so i went to a site i've heard of that does that kind of thing (i'm not naming the site, because i want to look around a little at others), and saw that i'll have to pay anywhere from 5 to 30 bucks a month to be able to do it... OMG... i was so surprised... and i was like, well, how am i going to do that? i'm just a student

then i went through it this morning to see how the whole process works, and found out i can pay for the darn thing using PayPal (bless you PayPal people, you're the best)... and in Feb i tried to set up an account (and almost thought i was out a chunk of change for a little while)... well, i noticed that it was all verified and everything, so i've now sort of solved one of my problems

now, if only i could create a genuis clone of myself that'll take my exams for me, i'll be set for the next couple of weeks

for the past little while, i've been thinking of putting together a podcast... just so i don't have to remember to write in this darn thing some of the times... sometimes saying stuff out loud makes so much more sense, because then you can hear the emotion and not just have to imagine it... i mean, i'm not a robot or anything

so, i'll be testing making audio files and seeing it i can post it straight to this site, then have it go through iTunes (cause i love my iTunes, and my green iPod)... when it works, i will have a huge celebration post, plus a celebration podcast

Last week-end, my parents went to the BC Home and Garden Show, just because they keep fixing up the house and stuff... one day they'll just tear the whole place down and build a better house... they come back with free samples, and they bring me a 2007 guide of bed and breakfast's in Ireland... i was all, why?... and my mom was like, well, in case you want to take a trip

and it got me thinking, because i want to go, and i don't want to wait until next summer to go... i started thinking that once my passport arrives i should go in August after summer exams, and stay there for a week or so and just wander around a little... sometimes i get so bored here, doing the same thing over and over and over

well, there your weekly glimpse into my weird life... maybe i'll start posting twice weekly, on Saturdays and Wednesdays

Geez, things just feel so boring right now, it's an odd feeling... well, maybe it's just the weather, it's annoyingly cold outside, raining, earlier it was snowing... i just don't understand the weather

so i'm here, inside, drinking coffee, at 3:15 in the afternoon on a Saturday... and i really don't have to go out until Monday afternoon... i should probably go through my textbooks, maybe on Monday i will... crud, i just realized i have to read a new book for Wednesday, and write something on it for Friday

well, maybe i should pick up my writing again, i've left that poor NaNoWriMo book sitting in it's Word file for so long, unfinished... maybe i'll write some more today, since i've got nothing to do... well, first i have to do a couple of things, then i'll go back to my book

and i've got to think of a way to get more people to read this darn blog thing i have here... hmmm... maybe have some kind of odd contest... or just turn it into a podcast or something

Music review day

ok, since i've done practically no writing in the longest time, i'm going to give a review of a new CD... Fall Out Boy's "Infinity On High"... i love this group, love their music, and i love their new CD... i'm going to go through the CD song by song, so you can pick and choose which ones you think you'd like... the CD can be found on iTunes, which is where i got it... enjoy... and since i'm a writer, i pay attention to the lyrics a lot, because they tell a story, so i'll be mentioning them a lot

1. "Thriller": the opening song is always important to a new CD... there's a little spoken word bit at the beginning, then a great guitar and drum riff... the chorus is catchy, and the music is great... the song's a little mellow, but it's got a lot of bass, your normal alterative/punk song... a great opening for the CD

2. "The Take Over, the Breaks Over": great drum work at the beginning, very catchy beat... it feels like a good song to dance to if you're alone in the house cleaning... love the guitar in this song... about halfway through it calms down a little, but loses none of the energy of the song

3. "This Aint a Scene, It's An Arms Race": the first single played on the radio... i don't understand why the radio people edit it, it's kinda dumb... i just want to sing along with this song, it's that good... another song with a great beat

4. "I'm Like A Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me & You)": this reminds me of a punk-love song... there isn't really any screaming lyrics, it's mostly the lead singer talking about if he and this girl we together and on their honeymoon... it's really funny, but i love this song... this is a song to get if you love Fall Out Boy

5. "Hum Hallelujah": pretty good guitar... i didn't toally love this song, for some reason the beginning reminded me of a Green Day song, but i don't know which one... again, it's guitar and drum heavy, but it's still a pretty okay song... the chorus is the best part

6. "Golden": not what i expected for a Fall Out Boy song, but i love this song... it's short and sweet and perfect as a calming influence inbetween all the other lound punk-rock-alternative songs... i was surprised to hear the piano as being such a prominent instrument in this song... the lyrics are great, like a tortured guy trying to struggle through life... a must-have song

7. "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs": this sing is actually 'Thanks For The Memories", the vowels were just removed in the title... i thought that was kind of clever... starts off a little strange... it's more like a 'screw you' to an old girlfriend, but the lyrics are great, telling a little story that cracked me up a little

8. "Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?": this is an ok song, it kind of sticks in your head after you've listened to it a few times... once i was listening to the whole CD and went right pst this song without realizing... it's still good, but not the best... reminds me of songs on the "From Under The Cork Tree" album, ok but not memorable

9. "The (After)Life of the Party": really mellow at the beginning, i thought i was listening to a pop song for a little while... but then the guitar and bass kick in... it's a little sad, but it doesn't totally suck... it's calmer than most Fall Out Boy songs

10. "The Carpal Tunnel of Love": i heard this song weeks ago when iTunes released this track as a pre-release track... i loved this song from the beginning, it was another loud, full of spunk Fall Out Boy song... this should be their next single... a great song to sing along to once you figure out what the lyrics are

11. "Bang the Doldrums": pretty good song... it took me a little while to warm up to it, but it's pretty good... amazing chorus, i love it... a good song to drive to and sing along to

12. "Fame < Infamy": a loud song, again... not too bad... it's like they shoved all the guitar they could plus a little more into it

13. "You're Crashing, But You're No Wave": i love this song because of the lyrics... it's about a court case and someone's about to be convicted of some crime... picture a courtroom full of punk rockers... again, amazing chorus, this one really stuck in my head

14. "I've Got All This Ringing In My Ears and None On My Fingers": and another offbeat song title, but you've got to love them... i keep picturing a video for this when they're trying to walk through mud, then it's all normal, then it's through the mud again... and there's trumpet and trombone and tuba players in the background... a great ending song to an amazing CD

as you can tell, i loved this CD, it's great, and i love this band... i hope they put out more great songs like these

well, my classes aren't helping, because i have a 5 page essay due Friday, which isn't that bad, and a Physics midterm Thursday evening, which i don't want to do... i so hate science, why did i agree to take this class anyways??

and since i've been in my classes, i haven't gotten any writing done, which means i missed the deadline to get a free printed copy of my novel... o well, maybe next year... and maybe when i'm gone in April on vacation... i so want to finish it so i can go over it and edit it and everything

Long time, no type

Cripes, it's been a while since i wrote something here... i guess i should update this darn thing more often or something

first thing's first... my birthday was on the 26th, and i don't feel any older than i did before the 26th, which is a little strange, but o well... maybe in 10 years i'll feel old :D

Christmas was good, a little lonely considering it was only the four of us this year... last year it was five plus our dog, but with my grandmother's passing in June and the putting down of our dog in July, it was only the four of us with no one eating the wrapping paper... but it was still good... i'm still wondering why my sister and i got a bleach pen form my mom, but my mom's nuts

NaNoWriMo was in November, but i'm rushing to finish the damned thing so i can get it published on Lulu.com so they can send me a free printed copy... and once it's up on Lulu.com, everyone who wants a copy of the darn thing will be able to get it... well, they might have to pay something for actually printing the book if they want a paper copy, that just a little annoying... i'm up to 73,000 words and 287 pages, and i have two and a half chapters more planned out, plus an epilogue

i'll be lucky if i finish before my classes start on Tuesday... i have to finish by the 16th, which is about 9 days away, but i want to finish before that

Well, happy late new year to everyone, and maybe in April i'll start book number two, because i've enjoyed writing this book, even last night when i wanted to cry

yay me, i won at NaNoWriMo

so, everyone can congratulate me or something

on a different note, it's been freakishly cold here, with a total of 43 centimetres of snow falling from Saturday night to early Monday morning... umm, earth to weather, this is B.C., we're not prepared for any amount of snow that's over a couple centimetres... it's the end of November... where's all the rain we should be getting????... it's been so so so cold here, like, minus 10 degrees C, and it's just horrible... i doubt i'll be driving anywhere until a lot of it melts away

it's looking like it'll be better over the next week, with sun and some rain on the week-end... which'll be fun since i'll be driving home on Sunday night, since i'm housesitting for someone right now... at least it's not that cold inside

Day eight: Almost at a standstill... and almost crying

okay, i'll talk about the crying first, because it would've been happy crying... i didn't actually cry, i did get a little teary-eyed, and i blame one person... i blame Wendy

now, i'm not angry with her, i'm just really touched and all emotional-y... yesterday, her blog mentioned the writing i was doing for NaNoWriMo, so i sent her the first part of what i have, like, the first 20 pages or so, it's basically a little intro and the first chapter... her response was she loved it, and i mean LOVED it... so far everyone seems to love it, like, LOVE it-love it... which makes me feel better, knowing i'm not writing all this boring crap that no one will like

so, today on Wendy's blog was a poem, which i loved, babe, it's so good... and it's kind of like a poetic version of how someone is changed from a human to a werewolf... which did make me reconsider what they look like as werewolves (like if they're actual wolves or something close but a little more human)... i loved how it was written, in little sections... and of course, the mention of sushi... and i've only had bad sushi once, and i'll never go back there again

now, onto my standstill... i don't quite know what's going on... i haven't really been writing as much as i was last week, which is annoying... i have been going back and adding more, which always gets me to add more when i think i've forgotten something, which is good

now, think of it in terms of pages and words... 4 pages, double spaced, 12 point type, is about 1,000 words... do you know how hard it is to write that much when you think of it like that?? i always get stuck when i think of it like that... i wanted to get to 25,000 before i left for lunch, and i might just be able to do it if i stop blabbering on here

yesterday was just slow and boring... well, on Saturday night our hot water heater died between 6pm and 11pm and flooded our basement a little, so i got to bed late that night, like at 1 in the morning Sunday... i got up 7 hours later, just so i was up early enough to go with my dad to the airport to drop off my mom... she's in Austin, Texas until Saturday night for work (and maybe she'll get some writing done)

since yesterday was so slow, i got just over another 1,000 words done, which included some new stuff and some padding in other places... for the first 4 days i averaged about 4,000 words a day, and yesterday i just got over 1,000

so, today's going to be catch up, to try and get to 22,000... which is about another 4,600 words at this point... ooooo, fun

and at this moment, the guys who were going to replace the hot water heater are leaving, because there's a drain in the way, that was obviously put in after the heater was, and there isn't enough room to fit the heater past it... so, yeah, life sucks right now... hopefully your lives don't suck as much, peoples

Day four: writing at a steady pace

okay, i'm starting to get a little tired from writing, but i guess it's normal... i think at this moment, i'm at 12,600 words, plus a little more... i don't remember off the top of my head... i got some writing done late last night, just because I wanted to stop at 12,000 before I headed off to bed, and i did at like, 1:30 this morning... so, i'm going to cheat and say that over three days, i've averaged about 4,000 words a day... which is pretty good, in the long run, when to get 50,000 words in 30 days, you should be averaging about 1,700 to 2,000 words a day

at least the whole thing ends at midnight local time, so i'll still be writing after a good chunk of the world has stopped... yay me (and no offence to everyone else)

Wednesday was basically just laying the beginning foundations and writing... Thursday was padding and adding more as I read over it and writing new stuff... Friday was more writing new stuff... who knows about today?... probably more new, maybe some reading over of the second part to prepare it for critiques by others

hmmm, what else can i talk about??

i'm thinking that the first 20 pages or so are done, and i'm not about to add more to them... i've let some people read the first part... Jeannie (love my Jeannie), Dani, and Nancy... i think that's all who've read it so far... Jeannie said she'd buy it when it came out, Dani said she was hooked and wants to know more, especially about one guy that was mentioned, and Nancy said she liked it... hopefully other people'll like it, too... i like it, i think it's interesting, and i know there's going to be lots of twists and surprises

i feel so evil saying that, but it's true... i guess that's all for now... enjoy the weekend, peoples... and happy writing to all the NaNoWriMo people... you're all going to write great things

Day one: my writing begins with a bang

omg omg omg... you all have NO idea how good i feel right now... as of right now, i've written 3,934 words... the FIRST 3,934 words of my novel for NaNoWriMo... it took me weeks to get this far with my other novel... i guess this one's just easier because it's a more present day focused book, not one taking place in a fantasy land... i just want to keept going and going and going, but i'm so tired and a little cold and i need sleep

with any luck i'll be back in about 9 hours writing another 3,900 words... i'm aiming for about that many each day... it's about 16 pages, double spaced... and if i can do that with everything that's happened today, then i can do it for the next 29 days

now, i know i promised some people an excerpt... and here it is... and i'll forego the song and book recommendation for today

When I was younger, things happened quickly, quicker than I thought things would happen, which felt a little strange when I was growing up. Of course, everything about my life is strange, so who am I to complain? My childhood was short, to the point, and very, very boring, so I’m not about to go into it and bore you completely.

I swear to you, it was a completely normal childhood, with the normal parents, normal siblings, normal house, and normal pets. Completely normal everything.

I could say more about the normalness of it, but why would I when I’ve got a lot more interesting things to talk about, like, how I became a werewolf. Well, it was the normal way, of course.

Some stupid wolf bit me.

That sure did teach me to carry around a knife or two instead of pepper spray. Pepper spray does not work on wolves that tackle you to the ground and bite you in the shoulder. Trust me on this.

I was in college, my junior year, and I was taking a shortcut through a back alley towards my apartment. I’d been taking the alley for years, and I knew what kind of disgusting things lived back there under the dumpsters and trash cans. Walking through the alley, I turned the corner, and the next thing I knew I found myself flat on my back, with this snarling, growling animal on me.

The first thought that went through my mind was, “Oh, shit.”

The second thought that went through my mind was, “Damn, this guy’s heavy.” And I could tell it was a male wolf.

He slowly lowered his head towards me, then bent further and sniffed at my neck, and then at my hair, pressing his nose into the dark red mass of curls. I started trembling, shaking under the weight of this huge animal. Well, shaking as much as I could; his weight was really pressing down on me. I could almost feel the bruises forming on my chest and shoulders as he pressed down hard.

I was almost afraid to touch him, but I knew I had to push him off of me if I was going to get up and run up into my apartment away from this stupid dog, so I slowly raised my arms and pressed my hands to his chest, trying to push him off of me. I pushed as hard as I could, barely moving him, and he chose that moment to growl at me in warning.

So, I dropped my arms. “Look, buddy, you might want to get off of me before I completely freak out and have a panic attack and faint right here.”

The wolf’s head slowly rose from sniffing at my hair and looked down at me, the bright blue eyes a little disconcerting in such a furry, and oddly intelligent looking, face. I squirmed under the intense stare, wondering if he was even going to get off sometime in the next year, then stopped when he growled again, even deeper and rougher than the last time.

“Hey!”

Someone called out from the other end of the alley, which distracted the wolf and forced him to look at the man who’d called out. I took the opportunity to push the wolf off of me again, using as much force as I could. It was enough to push him away, causing him to fall back into piled up trash bags.

I quickly got to my feet and started running down the alley to my building, and was soon tackled and pressed down hard into the pavement. I could feel hot breathing against my neck, a low growl, and then that wolf bit down on my neck, tearing away my jacket and sweater before puncturing the skin of my shoulder.

Screaming in pain, I tried to roll over and get him off of me, but he wouldn’t budge or let go, and bit down harder. I screamed again, and raised my hand up to the wolf’s head, trying to pull him off as I struggled underneath him. He stilled for a second, and I saw the edges of my vision turn red, then black, and fainted, my hand falling down onto the pavement.

The next thing I knew, I was in my apartment, lying naked on my living room floor, in the middle of the day, covered in sweat and shaking uncontrollably.

I know, it sounds like something out of a fiction novel, but when I saw the bleeding bite mark on my neck and the bruises on my chest and back, I fainted again, almost hitting my head on the edge of the tub and giving myself a serious concussion.

When I woke up, a few hours had passed, and I slowly stood up. All I could see when I looked in the mirror was a nasty looking scar on my neck and shoulder, and fading bruises on my back.

The first thing I did was take a hot shower that probably peeled off the top layer of skin.

The second thing was order a large pepperoni and sausage pizza, because I was starving.

The third thing I did was spend the next four days in my apartment because I was freaking out over what had happened, what diseases that stupid wolf might’ve given me, and what I might’ve done in those twelve hours when I wasn’t aware of anything but the colour black.

The next few weeks completely changed the course of my life, or what I thought my life would be. I thought I’d settle my life into place after college and be normal, you know. Have a career, meet someone nice, get married, have a family, and do all the other boring normal living… stuff.

But, no, not for me.

Let the writing marathon begin!

hi-ho peoples... well, it looks like it's Hallowe'en... ooooo, fun... i don't think i've been out on this night since i was 12... weird... and it looks like i've got door duty again... just because my sister still has midterms... o well... and it's her birthday tomorrow... *rolling eyes* o well, again... i might not be around so much tomorrow... crap

well, that's for two reasons... one, tomorrow's the start of NaNoWriMo... when you write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days... *rubbing hands together in an evil way*... it's going to be soooo much fun... the second reason is because my dad's working from home tomorrow... so i'm going to be annoyed all day into doing things around the house... i might as well just lock myself in my room tomorrow so i can get some writing done

and because of this writing thing, it basically means that i can't work on my novel for the next month... damn... well, it'll be there in December, right??

so, today's pretty much devoted, for the most part, to planning out my contest novel and writing as much of my novel as i can before tomorrow... i guess i can always go back to it if i get stuck or something... i expect everyone out there to do this, or at least some people... if you've signed up at NaNoWriMo.org, then good for you and tell me your ID, and i'll add you to my list... the more the merrier, right??

now, i know what you're thinking... 50,000 words in 30 days? you're nuts... well, 2 pages, double spaced, is about 500 words... so if you do the math, *doing the math in my head* it's about 200 pages, more or less... you can get 50,000 words in 30 days if you average about 1,700 a day, which is about 7 pages... now, that's really not that bad... and in this contest thing, you're a winner if you actually get to 50,000 words or more

go to the website, check out the rules, and if you think it'll get your writing juices flowing, then by all means, go ahead and sign up... i promise it'll be fun ;)

ok, props to my Nancy... she told me about this writing month thing... which is National Novel Writing Month... it sounds so cool, so i thought, why not??... i can get my book put out there on this site... or even write something else and put this on hold, cause i do have a lot jumbling around in my head... sweet

and on another note, i've got 4 pages done so far this weekend... which, i know, isn't 10, but i only write when the mood grabs me

Has the world turned boring on me?

ok, ever since i started this, which was like, 2 or 3 days ago (right??), i've been getting bored... probably cause i didn't want to post here every day and sound completely boring... but i don't really care... so, i'll be putting stuff up here every day, or just when i feel like it... just to give you all something to read every day ;)

i've kept going with my second attempt at a book, and i've realized that i'll have to write it, in the order i want to, then go back over it and add more as i think of it, which sounds weird, but i guess that's what authors call revisons, right??... i wrote 3 whole pages the other day, which is more than i've done in 3 months, so i guess i've fixed my writer's block... right now, my problem is just wanting to write everything that's going around in my head, which just gets me to the end quicker... which is just stupid... damn my creative brain :D... o well... and once i'm done the whole thing (praying it's going to be at least 400 pages when i'm done), i'll have to do the most trying thing of all... finding someone who'll publish the darn thing... i'm shooting to be done by my birthday next year, which gives me 14 months to write another 379 pages... which is pretty much a page a day... i think i can pull it off

now for my location update... basically, the weather sucks... it's cold, cloudy, and really windy... and our holly bush is bright red because of the berries... it looks like X-mas out there instead of Hallowe'en... it's still fairly green out there, so it's not all bad

well, i guess that's it for now... hopefully i can write a bit more on the weekend... i'm hoping for at least 10 pages... go me... and extra love to Nancy *hugs*

okay now, i figured that, since i don't normally post at my Yahoo blog, i'd post here, because it's an actual blog-type place... hopefully i can keep it up here longer than at Yahoo... i mean, i like Yahoo well enough, but sometimes you just want to smack it

now, i'm guessing knowing something about me might help, so, why not??... i'm heading into my third decade... which almost makes me sound like a baby when you figure out that i'm almost 20... i'm a west coast girl, okay, i'm a Canadian west coast girl, and my winter's consist of week-long rain... so no, i don't wear mittens 24/7

i'm a university student, working on my B.A.... maybe taking a break to work or travel a little... i've gotten to a point when i need to figure out what i want to do with the rest of my life... whether or not i want to get my degree now, or wait and live my life and do what i want for a year or so then go back to school... *sigh* some days it's annoying and upsetting thinking about this, because i honestly don't know what i want to do when my birthday hits at the end of the year, i'll plan out the next 12 months and see where that takes me

i'm also an aspiring writer... i write online in RP (that's role play) groups, and i think i do pretty good there... i've had lots of positive comments, so i think i have a talent at writing... i've had a few books in progress, in both romance and fantasy genres... the first one i wrote in high school in the 11th grade, almost 4 years ago... the second, i started in May... i came across the first one a few months ago and deemed it 'beyond saving'... all i can say is it's cheesy... the second hasn't got past 20 pages and i've been at a stand still since June... i love the idea of it, and hopefully i can start it up again... i'll have to come up with a schedule, like write so many pages a day

okay, i think that's enough about me for tonight... i'll spill more about me in future blogs... i think i'm going to end all my blog-posty-things (:D) with a book and a song recommendation... just to make the world a little more literate and musical
